5am – A/B/C  G7 News:

  • White House adviser says Canada’s Trudeau ‘stabbed us in the back’ (Reuters) – The top White House economic adviser accused Canada’s prime minister on Sunday of betraying President Donald Trump with “polarizing” statements on U.S. trade policy that risked making the American leader look weak on the eve of a historic summit with North Korea.  Larry Kudlow, director of the National Economic Council, lashed out at Canadian Prime Minster Justin Trudeau as “amateurish” and “sophomoric” for a news conference he gave after Trump left the Group of Seven summit on Saturday.  The comments, made after Trump had left to go to Singapore for his much-anticipated meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, infuriated the U.S. president.  Trump called Trudeau “very dishonest and weak” on Twitter on Saturday and then sent Kudlow and trade adviser Peter Navarro to hammer the message home on Sunday morning news shows in an extraordinary assault on a close U.S. ally and neighbor.
  • Merkel:  EU will retaliate against Trump tariffs (The Hill) – German Chancellor Angela Merkel said in a new interview Sunday that the European Union (EU) would follow Canada’s move and forge ahead with its plan to implement counter-measures to President Trump‘s tariffs.  “We won’t allow ourselves be ripped off again and again. We will act too,” Merkel told German broadcaster ARD.  The chancellor also addressed concerns that Trump would hit back by implementing new tariffs on German vehicles, saying, “We will try to see if we can stop this from happening… And then hopefully the EU will respond again in the same unified way.”  Her comments came amid the escalating fallout from a contentious meeting between Trump and other world leaders at the Group of Seven (G-7) Summit in Canada over the weekend.

5am – D TWITTER NEWS:

  • Twitter Finally De-Verifies Louis Farrakhan After ‘Satanic Jew’ Rant (Daily Caller) – Twitter appears to have de-verified Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan on Friday, two days after he ranted about “Satanic Jews” and the “Synagogue of Satan.”  Farrakhan is a notorious racist and anti-Semite who has close ties to several Democratic members of Congress.  “I wonder will you recognize Satan? I wonder, will you see the Satanic Jew and the Synagogue of Satan, which has many races in it, because Satan has deceived the whole world, and think about the message that I was blessed by God to give you today,” Farrakhan said in a video he posted Wednesday.  “Think about what they’re gonna say when they have been so thoroughly and completely unmasked. Whenever you read that God has told the Jews to hear and obey, and they say, I hear and I disobey, that’s Satan,”  he continued.  Farrakhan was still verified sometime on Friday, internet archives show, but by Friday evening the blue checkmark has disappeared from his account. Twitter has in the past taken similar punitive measures against racists and white nationalists.
  • TWITTER CEO CAVES TO LIBERAL BACKLASH, SAYS HE WAS WRONG TO EAT CHICK-FIL-A (Daily Caller) – Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey on Sunday expressed regret over eating at Chick-fil-A, because of the chicken company’s CEO’s personal views on gay marriage. Dorsey tweeted a screenshot from his phone that showed a purchase he had made at Chick-fil-A using a mobile application. After a liberal backlash, however, Dorsey apologized for eating at the popular fast food restaurant. At issue was Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy’s 2012 support for defining marriage as between a man and a woman, which he described as “the biblical definition of a family.” Former CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien was among those to call out Dorsey for eating at the self-described home of the original chicken sandwich. O’Brien indicated that Dorsey had sinned by publicly eating at Chick-fil-A during gay pride month. “You’re right,” Dorsey conceded. “Completely forgot about their background.”

5am – E  Immigration Latest:

  • Steve King: GOP Leadership Hell-Bent on DACA Amnesty, Listening To What The Donors Want (Breitbart) – Rep. Steve King (R-IA) says the Republican leadership — led by House Speaker Paul Ryan — is hell-bent on pushing an amnesty for potentially millions of illegal aliens while failing to stop a discharge petition that would force a vote on an amnesty.  In an interview with SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Tonight, King told Senior Editors-at-Large Rebecca Mansour and Joel Pollack that GOP leadership is not only pushing for an immigration deal that gives amnesty to illegal aliens without reducing legal immigration, but also says they are not working to effectively stop an amnesty discharge petition.  King said: Nobody on the leadership level is even uttering the words that we should move legislation that doesn’t include amnesty. They postured themselves today as if it’s a foregone conclusion that amnesty for DACA recipients has to be the leading issue on this. And we have no mandate to provide amnesty for anybody coming into this past election. And by the way, President Trump had a mandate and his campaign promise was to end DACA. We thought that would happen at noon on January 20, 2017, at the moment he swore into office. We found out about five or six weeks later that they were still issuing DACA permits and extending them.  [The pro-amnesty Republicans are] hearing that they need to provide amnesty because there’s been a number of major Republican donors that have said ‘I’m only going to donate money to people that support DACA amnesty.’ And of course, that’d be the last reason I’d ever support it. But it might be one of the reasons that others might.
  • House Republicans struggle to hash out immigration deal (Politco) – House Republican leaders have drafted the outline of an immigration framework they hope will stave off an intraparty war over Dreamers.  But negotiators on both sides of the debate emerged from a Friday meeting without an agreement in hand, and many are skeptical that House Republicans — notoriously divided — can come together on such a contentious issue.  Conservatives in the House Freedom Caucus and moderate GOP lawmakers left Speaker Paul Ryan’s office Friday afternoon promising to continue talks over the weekend. But key disagreements, particularly over legal status for the young undocumented immigrants known as Dreamers and border security, continue to bedevil the group ahead of a looming deadline next week.  Rep. Jeff Denham of California, leaving the meeting, said he wanted to see text on a deal by Tuesday — or he would encourage lawmakers to sign the discharge petition to trigger a series of bipartisan DACA votes that Republican leaders are desperately hoping to avoid.

  • The intelligence file on Kim Jong-un: The big picture: “The picture that emerged from literally dozens of interviews bears a striking similarity with the man he has emerged into today,” the source said. “Gluttonous, prone to fits of anger and swaggering around his classmates. Kim Jong-un was an in-attendant student but demanded slavish loyalty from other children in his wake.” “He was prone to violence,” the source added. “He had a couple of young guys who were with him” at the Swiss school, and “he hit them frequently.” “He didn’t do well in school. He was distracted a lot.” The binder describes the young Kim making vague and grand declarations to his classmates — for example, after games he would say, in the source’s recollection, “some day you will all remember me.”

6am – D/E  For Chinese Pedestrians Glued to Their Phones, a Middle Path Emerges (New York Times) – So ubiquitous in China are pedestrians glued to their cellphones, they have earned a nickname: the heads-down tribe.  In their natural habitat, tribe members can be seen texting, watching videos and conducting financial transactions, all while dodging cars, tripping at potholes and jamming up subway station entrances. The World Health Organization calls such behavior “distracted walking,” and it is a growing health concern in China, where pedestrian deaths make up a significant number of traffic-related fatalities.  This spring, the managers of a giant shopping mall in Xi’an, a city in the northwest province of Shaanxi, implemented a novel strategy to protect members of the tribe: pedestrian lanes specifically for cellphone users.  Colorfully painted paths outside the Bairui Plaza shopping mall have been designated for walkers who cannot be bothered to look up from their devices.

6am – F  Iranian Politician Discusses Facilitation of 9/11 Hijackers (Daily Caller) – A prominent Iranian politician discussed Iranian facilitation on the passage of al-Qaeda members who later carried out the September 11, 2001 terror attacks, potentially confirming allegations in the 9/11 Commission report.  Mohammad-Javad Larijani, a former diplomat, member of a politically influential Iranian family, and current international affairs assistant in the Iranian judiciary, made the comments in an interview with Iranian state TV on May 30, according to an Al Arabiya report. The interview translation was independently confirmed by The Daily Caller News Foundation.  The 9/11 Commission Report was released on July 22, 2004. It is the official report of the events leading up to and after the events of the terror attacks, and was put together by the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States at the request of Congress and then-President George W. Bush.  There was strong evidence that al-Qaeda hijackers traveled through Iran “on their way to or from Afghanistan, taking advantage of the Iranian practice of not stamping Saudi passports,” the report stated.

  • Robert De Niro says “F-ck Trump” onstage at Tony Awards
  •  Andrew Garfield Dedicates Tony Award to ‘LGBTQ People Who Have Died for the Right to Live’ (People) – Andrew Garfield is the toast of Broadway.  The actor, 34, was a big winner at Sunday’s 2018 Tony Awards, taking the Radio City Music Hall stage to accept the Tony for his performance as AIDS patient Prior Walter in the acclaimed revival of Angels in America.  Garfield dedicated the award to the “countless LGBTQ people who have fought and died for the right to live and love as we are created to.”  He added, “We are all sacred and we all belong, so let’s just bake a cake for everyone who wants a cake to be bake,” referring to the recent Supreme Court ruling on Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission.  This was the second nomination for Garfield and first win. He was previously nominated in 2012, for his featured role opposite the late Philip Seymour Hoffman in Mike Nichols’ revival of Death of a Salesman.
  • Parkland High Students’ performance brings down the house at Tony Awards (Market Watch) – Few dry eyes remained in Radio City Music Hall as a group of teenagers who survived a February school shooting in Parkland, Fla., took to the Tony Awards stage to sing the musical-theater classic “Seasons of Love” from “Rent.”  The students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School were at the award show to honor their theater instructor, Melody Herzfeld, who was receiving the 2018 Excellence in Theatre Education Award. The award is given to a different theater educator each year. Herzfeld was given the award for her role in hiding 60 students in her drama class during the shooting, which killed 17 people and ignited a debate surrounding gun control in the U.S. Theater helped the students recover from the traumatic events in the months following the incident, Herzfeld said.

8am – B  OVECHKIN CELEBRATING ALL OVER DC:

  • Alex Ovechkin partying all over DC since Stanley Cup win, dives into Georgetown fountain (Fox 5 DC) – WASHINGTON – Since the Washington Capitals’ win on Thursday night, the team has been celebrating non-stop, in particular, star captain Alex Ovechkin. Ovechkin is taking every chance he can get to lift the Cup, whether it was coming off the plane with Nicklas Backstrom on Friday or on the field Saturday before and after his two tries at a ceremonial first pitch. From Las Vegas to Washington and with more than a few drinks in between, the Capitals are acting as if they haven’t been here before — because they haven’t. They’re the first new Cup champion since the Los Angeles Kings in 2012 and finally are atop the NHL after nine early playoff exits. “I just Cup holder right now,” Ovechkin said. On Saturday, following the Nationals game, the Caps were seen around Georgetown — and a viral video by Tyler Tester on Twitter, captured the team running into a fountain by the waterfront. Alex Ovechkin and T.J. Oshie ran into the fountain with the cup, before encouraging bystanders to jump in with them.
  • OVECKIN AND IVANKA RUSSIAN COLLUSION: Ivanka and Jared party with Stanley Cup champions. White House senior advisers Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner celebrated with Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals players Saturday at the restaurant Cafe Milano in Washington, D.C.
  • When’s the Caps parade? Tuesday morning, on Constitution Avenue. The parade is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at Constitution Avenue and 23rd Street NW, heading east to Seventh Street and culminating with a rally just down Seventh on the Mall.

8am – C  BELMONT STAKES:

  • Justify wins the Belmont Stakes and becomes the 13th horse in history to complete the Triple Crown. (Daily Mail) – Justify has won the Belmont Stakes and become the 13th horse to win the Triple Crown of thoroughbred racing, days after it was revealed billionaire international financier George Soros is a 15 per cent stakeholder in the winner. The chestnut colt’s wire-to-wire victory came in the 150th running of the Belmont Stakes Championship Horse Race on Saturday at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York.
  • Losing owner calls for investigation into tactics used in Belmont Stakes (Lexington Herald Leader) – Mike Repole, co-owner of horses that finished fourth and last in Saturday’s Belmont Stakes, told the New York Post on Sunday he hopes stewards will look into the tactics used by the jockey for the “other” horse trained by Bob Baffert.  Repole questioned Florent Geroux’s ride on Restoring Hope, a stablemate of Belmont winner and 13th Triple Crown champion Justify, who is trained by Baffert for owner Gary West.  While saying Justify was the deserving winner, Repole told reporter Tom Pedula he felt like Restoring Hope, a 37-1 shot, ran interference for Justify against other horses in the race.  “It definitely seemed to me he was more of an offensive lineman than a racehorse trying to win the Belmont,” Repole said, “and Justify was a running back trying to run for a touchdown.”

8am – D  INTERVIEW – LT. COL. TONY SHAFFER  – a CIA trained former senior intelligence officer and the New York Times best-selling author of ” Operation Dark Heart.” – discussed the North Korea summit

8am – E  Rep. Comstock goes on the offensive in GOP primary (Washington Post) – As voters in her Northern Virginia district overwhelmingly backed Hillary Clinton for president two years ago, Rep. Barbara Comstock (R) withstood that Democratic energy and handily won reelection.  Now in her bid for a third term, Comstock is formidable — she has raised $3.2 million, enjoys wide name recognition and the power of incumbency, and is considered the overwhelming favorite in the GOP primary on Tuesday against Shak Hill, a relative unknown and self-described inspirational speaker.  Still, she is not taking anything for granted.  Comstock’s campaign has rolled out a series of attacks against Hill, a retired Air Force pilot who unsuccessfully ran for the GOP nomination for Senate in 2014.  It produced a website that invites viewers to “Meet Shady Shak. Creepy candidate. Can’t win,” which criticizes his hiring decisions and accuses him of posting lewd material online.  In radio ads reinforcing the message, a menacing-sounding male voice asks “Do you know the real Shak Hill?”
