Hilary Clinton has admitted that she really did not want to go to Donald Trump's inauguration after he beat her to the job of President of the USA - and looked for any excuse to avoid it.

The politician 'the rest of the world wanted to win' made the tongue-in-cheek remark when she visited Cheltenham Literary Festival today.

"Even George W Bush was reported to have said 'that was some weird shit' after his speech," she remarked to the crowds.

When asked by a cheeky member of the audience whether Trump has ever made her "laugh out loud", she jokingly quipped: "Only to stop me from crying."

She admitted she fully expected to win the U.S. presidential election last November.

“I believed I was going to win. There was no warning of this,” she said.

“Even Trump was surprised.”

The phone call she made to her closest political rival after he beat her was "perfunctory" and brief.
