Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) and the Florida Forest Service are continuing efforts to contain the Second Alarm grass fire near Card Sound Road, also known as the 167 West Fire.
More than 20 MDFR units, including water tenders, are on scene. Air Rescue crews are conducting reconnaissance flights and water drops to extinguish remaining hot spots. As of the latest update from the Florida Forest Service, the fire is about 400 acres and is 50% contained.

On Friday evening, the Miami-Dade Sheriffs office posted on X that Car Sound Road and US1 lanes were open, however the Florida Forest Service advises that Northbound US1 closures and additional intermittent closures are possible as firefighting efforts continue.
Residents near the area may experience smoky conditions due to shifting winds. MDFR recommends limiting outdoor exposure, especially for individuals with respiratory issues. Keep windows and doors closed and set air conditioners to recirculate indoor air.
Homeowners close to the fire zone are urged to hose down dry vegetation, wooden decks, steps, and siding—especially areas where wind-blown embers could land—to help slow fire spread and protect property.
