USAID Announces Large Overseas Construction Project

Full Contractor Competition slated for January 2018

Washington, DC, Dec. 18, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The US Agency for International Development (USAID) released a pre-solicitation notice for an anticipated $5 - $10 million government contract to construct pre-fabricated classrooms in Malawi. Full competition for the contract should begin in January 2018. Businesses who might be eligible to submit a proposal should start preparing.

Although the agency is not currently accepting proposals, comments or questions, they did release some information about the future project. They anticipate a period of performance of about six months for the construction of pre-fabricated classrooms. The classrooms are needed at thirty-three existing schools in Malawi. Construction of pit latrines at the schools is also included as a requirement on the solicitation.

The $5 - $10 million dollar anticipated contract award gives potential bidders an estimate for the scope of work. The contractor who provides the most favorable bid to the agency and demonstrates the best qualifications will be the business who wins the contract.

USAID’s work in Malawi began in 1960. In 2006, U.S. assistance to Malawi increased substantially under Presidential initiatives. Fortunately for the country, under new Presidential initiatives, aid is still flowing in for needed structures and programs. Malawi is a poor country that experiences extreme climate which affects the livelihood of its citizens.

One major requirement for any company submitting a bid to the government is registration in the System for Award Management (SAM). Registration must be complete, accurate and current. Companies interested in this opportunity should check their SAM expiration date if they have already registered in the database. If a company’s SAM expiration date is less than ninety days away, they should consider renewing that registration or visiting a third-party registration firm to remain current in the system. If they haven't yet registered, they should become registered as soon as possible.

US Federal Contractor Registration (USFCR), the world’s largest third-party government registration firm, assists companies who would like to submit bids to the government. USFCR’s expert case managers register companies on their behalf in the System for Award Management (SAM).  Third-party assistance is optional, but highly recommended for companies who would like to be in the best position for placing competitive bids. If a company wishes to enroll in expiration protection with USFCR, a case manager will also make sure the SAM registration remains current at the annual expiration date. Current registration is imperative both at the contract proposal stage and during the performance period.
