The exact time temperatures will skyrocket to 23C as the sun finally appears and the UK basks in a heatwave has been revealed. WXCharts maps and charts, projected using Met Desk data suggest that temperatures could reach 23C this Friday.

London, Birmingham and Northampton could be hit by "the most intense heat". Met Office meteorologist Ellie Glaisyer said: “It will generally be a lot more settled this week. It will start to feel much more pleasant with temperatures on Tuesday likely to reach the very early twenties in the south.

"And then later on in the week, we could see temperatures of around 22C to 23C, while the north is likely to reach temperatures in the high teens.” Exacta Weather's James Madden said: "Beyond this and from the early part of next week, we are then set to see high pressure taking over."

The weather forecaster went on: "And this will bring a gradual rise in temperature values to something much warmer than average and potentially hot for the time of the year and from next week and in the run up to the middle of May at the very least."

In an update over midweek, Netweather TV explained on its blog: "High pressure will build through Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing warm and sunny weather to most of England and Wales and temperatures into the low 20s Celsius.

"However, on Tuesday, there will still be a scattering of sharp showers, which are most likely to especially affect the Midlands and the north of England. It will generally be cloudier in Scotland and Northern Ireland, but with some brighter spells, and rain will affect the north and northwest of Scotland on Wednesday."

The weather is then set to ramp up towards the weekend, with scorching weather anticipated at times across the UK from Friday onwards.
